The hotel was fairly new and modern, so it was clean and everything worked! The kettle hadn't been used (though you have to buy your own drink,) and it had a hairdryer in the bathroom. The rooms were cleaned whenever we wanted, and it was nice to have a balcony. The bed was comfortable too for a cheap hotel. It was a fairly quiet area, although they were building a 7 Eleven next door while staying there in Feb 2011, but work didn't start till 9am, and 11am on Sunday. The place had a lobby area where drinks could be bought and you could play pool. It was nice to have a place to meet up with friends before we went out.
The staff were generally friendly and very helpful whenever we needed anything. (The staff don't tell you much when you first check in,so you are constantly asking them questions.)However, this trust was abused, when on our last day, we were told our friend (who checked out the day before) did not pay for the minibus to the airport. As we couldn't get hold of our friend to confirm this, we decided to believe the receptionist so paid 300 baht. We found out later that he had paid it to the driver, so we are not sure whether the driver lied, or the hotel staff just used the opportunity to screw us. If you do book a taxi through the hotel, make sure you get a receipt if you pay upfront to the hotel to show the driver, as there doesn't seem to be a system of communication between the driver and hotel. Better still, just get a meter cab outside when you need to get anywhere. I'm sure we paid over the odds at 450 baht for 3 people. On another note, the hotel doesn't have a fully functioning restaurant. They only serve a basic breakfast (which is expensive by Thai prices, and uses the cheapest of ingredients.) You're better off hiring a bike and finding somewhere, as there isn't really a decent restaurant nearby. That's what we did, as Patong beach is still about 15 mins walk away. We recommend Laem Seng beach about 20 mins on a bike if you fancy a quieter beach and no screaming kids!

The Platinum had lovely friendly staff and all that you would require while on holiday. The swimming pool is not that big but it served its purpose I think the hotel guests from the hotel next door were also using the pool and there were not enough lounger chairs always. The location of the hotel is ok its a 15 minute walk to the beach from there. The outlook from the backside of the hotel is into another hotel in the making.
There was no restaurant in the Hotel which was a nuisance but never the less there are plenty of Restaurants around and about anyway. The children were in a different room which was located on the 5th floor we asked for them to be shifted to another room closer to us but they said the Hotel was fully booked. It would have been much better with them being closer to us.
